If You Want to
Sell Me, Why Are You Moving?

OK, so you get it. This Internet thing
may actually turn into a money-making operation.
More and more people are running to the net,
just to get online and see what is there or to get online to try to sell you something.
Droves more are coming right behind this wave. The rate of expansion of this
medium for sales, communication and expression is setting higher records all the time.
So, you said to yourself, "OK, let me
get some of that there cyber-money." You got some software. Built a page. Found
and added products of your own or from someone else. By now, if you are at our site http://www.stealthpromotions.com/ , you are
probably trying to figure out how to promote this new fountain of fortune.
Wait.
Before we go on, you should take stock.
What is the current state of the real estate you are about to promote? Are
you on firm ground of your own or borrowed soil? Can you raise your right hand now
and swear you will still be where you are now next year? Or is it possible you are moving?
If you are old enough, you may recall jokes
about the farmer's daughter and the traveling salesman. Rather than turn this
article into something blue, let me get to the point. That is to recall that once
upon a time, salesmen moved across the land with their products. They went to the
public. The public bought, and at night, according to the joke, the salesman usually
spent the night in the barn.
In the old days, it was acceptable to move
about when selling. This ain't the old days.
If you are not currently the master of your
website's location, if you do not control the access to your page, you have missed an
important step. You are about to waste time and perhaps some money too.
Why? Because even castles built on the
sifting sand of free web space is subject to crashing. You are about to operate at
the whim of your provider. In an alarmingly short period of time, your URL at www.lots-o-freespace/you can be taken as
easily as it was given. Do you get that? Do you know how loosely you control
the destiny of your free web page?
What is worse is that there is just no reason
not to have your own domain. None. Nada. Get over it. $70 for a
domain, a few more for space, and you are set.
Working your way through any respectable
sized list of potential hosts, you can find someone who can give you all the space you
need for cheap. And next year, it will be cheaper. And more so the year after
that.
Frogs can die in water that starts off
comfortable and is heated to boiling temperatures. For your business' sake, jump to
a new, safe haven that you can call your own. Do it now.
We offer hosting that can accommodate even
modest budgets. You can probably find what you need by making a quick visit to our
page at http://www.stealthpromotions.com/host.htm
Smaller sites can find what they need on our server. Larger sites should
check out the services at http://www.virtualisys.com/vr/ckilian
, our suggestion for your own domain hosting services.
Please don't take this advice as coming only
from an angle of selling you something. If you don't see what you want from us, go
elsewhere. And frankly, this does not apply if you are putting up pictures of your
kids, or puppy, or writing poetry, or doing whatever on personal pages. For the
moment, I am only addressing you who really intend to lay down roots for online success.
The important thing is not whether you come
to us. The important thing is that you get control of your future and your domain.
Unless you have your site on your own domain,
you cannot be certain that your customers from this year will find you next year.
Unless you control where your products and services can be found, visitors who don't need
your help now will not be able to find you later.
You can spend your time going to the free
classifieds, free for all pages, submission services and use other services we offer here,
but unless you know that you will still have the same address next year, all that work
could go to waste.
Am I telling you I see all the free services
crumbling over the next years? Nope. They will probably be there.
Perhaps they will even figure out how to advertise in less irritating ways.
Am I telling you that you SHOULD be spending
your time promoting a web page that you KNOW will be there next year? Yep.
That is exactly what I am telling you.
If I can't find you, you can't sell me.
Unless you own your own domain, you can not absolutely promise to be around when I
want what you have to offer.
There are added benefits to your own domain
of course. There is the respectability of being a legitimate business that thinks
enough of their product/service to invest $70 for a dot com address. The added
credibility could easily make your initial investment back in sales that you will not get
on a page where your visitors are assaulted by garish banners or pop-up windows.
If you search, you can find some old pages
for Stealth Promotion on free space. Some offer our services for money. Most
never contributed a dime to our bottom line. We are not even sure where some of them
are anymore.
See? I am telling you from experience.
Been there, done that. Next.
What is next for your business? Will
you put down roots? Will stake your claim? Or will you try to sell while you
are moving?
Did you buy your last appliance from the
trunk of a car or some huge store that you knew you could track down later for service,
upgrades or add-ons? And you want me to do business with you, when I know that I may
not find you the next time I need you? Sorry. For me and many others, your end
result is going to be no sale.
