Start Your Own Recycling Program
Not for Fun ... But for PROFIT!

© 1998 by Chris Ayers

Do you have a lot of articles that you have written
that are just taking up space on your web site or
on your "almost full" hard drive?

Here are ten things you can do to recycle that information
and drive more traffic to your site to boot!

(1)  Submit them to other newsletters.  If you're not sure
which newsletter, check out some of the directories that are
online.  My favorite is run by Ruth Townsend.  Check out
her directory out at http://www.lifestylespub.com/

Before submitting them, you might want to "freshen them up
a bit."  Make sure all the links still work and that the
information is still accurate and relevant.

(2)  Place them on your web site.  Create you own library of
articles.  This brings a lot of credibility to your web site.
Include good keywords and meta tags and submit these pages to
some of the major search engines.

It helps if you have a lot of articles on your site to
categorize them by either Author or Topic ... or both.
Even one step better would be to add search capability
to your library of articles.

(3)  Once they're up on your site, you can request links
from other web sites to your articles.  Put the link in
the text of your request so the web site owner can go to
your article and see firsthand, the value it will add
for his visitors.

You can get some ideas for writing effective messages
that request a link from our web site.  Check it out at
http://www.unlimitedtraffic.com/request.html

(4)  Join the Special Report Network. This little network is
producing some might hefty results!  Pick out your very best
report, dust it off, come up with an attractive title, and
then buckle up!

Check out this FREE opportunity to increase your traffic at

(5)  Create stand alone pages using your articles as content.
Carefully select good keywords and meta tags and then
submit to the major search engines.  You might even want
to rewrite portions of the article to ensure you get good
keyword relevancy.

You can host these sites on your own domain or get a free
one from one of the major companies that offer these sites.
My clients have had success with http://freeyellow.com/

Oh and the most important thing ... make sure you have a
link to your site prominently placed on the page. Some
people will call this a "feeder site" or "funnel site"
because you are "feeding" traffic to your own web site.

(6)  Combine a set of related articles into an electronic
book.  You see this being used effectively all over the
Web today.  You can offer this book as a FREE gift to
newsletter subscribers or use it creatively in any
number of ways.

If you don't quite have enough articles yourself, partner
with someone else to create the e-book.  Then each of you
can market the book to your own customers.

You can get a product called InfoCourier to produce e-books
at http://http://www.smartcode.com/products/ic/ic.htm

(7)  Set them up to be available by autoresponder.  You can
then place a page on your web site that lists the titles or
you can include them in a special section of your
newsletter.  Then give it a catchy name like
"Autoresponder Central" or "Information Express."

You web site host should be able to set you up with some
autoresponders.  However, if they're not FREE, you might
want to look at Sanford Wallace's http://smartbot.net/

(8)  Send them out to subscribers that you think might be
interested.  Maybe they've asked a question in an email or
on the phone.  Or maybe they've posted a message on your
discussion board.

This is a great way to begin building a strong relationship
with a customer.  And building relationships with your
customers might be the most important thing any of us that
want to succeed on the Web can do.

(9)  Repackage the information.  Take the same ideas used
in your article and give them a fresh new look.  Here's a
good example of how I recently did this.

I wrote an article about why you should offer a Member's
Only Section on your web site. (Didn't catch it, go here
http://www.unlimitedtraffic.com/articles/cva101.html )

The article was well received and was featured in number
of other newsletters.  When I was thinking of other ways
to use the article, I harkened back to my direct mail days
and remembered that we used to make what was called a tip
sheet ... similar to a "Top Ten List."

When I looked for ways to distribute this "used" material
that was now packaged in a different way, the answer popped
onto my computer screen.  The Top 7 Business List!  It's
a scaled back version of the "Top Ten" sent out daily by
Chris Knight.  Visit his site at http://Top7Business.com/

Then right after I repackaged my article in to a tip sheet,
my email bell rang again.  This time it was the Marketing
Tip of the Day, published by Ira Pasternack.  Stop by his
web site at http://clearlyinternet.com/mtod.html

(10)  Last but not least ... you can place them on other
people's web sites.  This one was kinda obvious but maybe
so much so that many people neglect to try it.

Find some sites that are a good fit with your material and
send them a note with the article enclosed.  Tell them why
you think the content of the article would add value to
their web site.

Many web sites have created their own "virtual" libraries
of free information on their site.  And if your article
is a match for their visitors ... BINGO!

So, get out there and do your part cause ...

EVERYBODY WINS WHEN YOU RECYCLE :-)
